About the Directors
DepositSmart is led by two highly experienced directors who each bring over four decades of expertise in finance. Together, Kym Dalton and Carey Brunel combine deep local and international knowledge with a proven track record of innovation in the New Zealand and Australian markets.
Kym Dalton
Kym brings over 45 years of experience in financial services on both sides of the Tasman. He was the founder of AMS, once Australasia’s largest non-bank lender, which issued more than $14 billion of highly rated mortgage-backed bonds into the New Zealand, Australian, and global capital markets.
A pioneer of non-bank lending in New Zealand during the 1990s, Kym has held senior international roles, including serving as the APAC representative on ABN AMRO Bank N.V.’s Global Mortgage Strategy Unit.
Now based in New Zealand, he is a Fellow of both the Finance Brokers Association of Australia (FBAA) and the Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia (MFAA).
Carey Brunel
Carey has more than 45 years of senior experience across all areas of financial services in the New Zealand market.
In 1989 he founded Property Pack, which over 28 years evolved into People Ltd — a fully integrated loan and insurance broking business spanning consumer and commercial insurance. Its subsidiary, Mortgage Smart, was a client of AMS and a pioneer of mortgage management in New Zealand.
Today, Carey continues to contribute to the sector as a non-executive director of Pioneer Finance, an Auckland-based consumer finance company.
